Our Journey

1986 to 1993

  • Inception of Astha Sansthan
  • The journey began with a humble step of initiating grassroot work in tribal dominated Kotra block of Udaipur district. The focus was on creating awareness amongst tribal community in Kotra block of Udaipur, Rajasthan.
  • Gradually work was initiated around draught relief, forest and forest based livelihood related issues. Astha Sansthan also focused on issues like access to water, employment and access to social schemes and entitlements.
  • A cooperative was formed around issue of Tendu Patta and Minor Forest Produce.
  • Setting up of Resource Center in Udaipur.

1993 to 2003

  • Expansion of issue based work in 6 Districts [Udaipur, Dungarpur, Banswara, Rajsamand, Pali and Sirohi]; and build and strengthened community based organizations and their leadership. Established 4 women led organization [Tribal, Single women and other marginalized women] and 3 Tribal community based organization and 1 Producer group on Minor Forest Produce.
  • Watershed programme implemented by Astha supported by DRDA in collaboration with 2 panachayt.
  • Training of cadre of Govt programme[WDP and Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas] in Rajasthan.
  • Women livelihood programme of Sericulture implemented by Astha in collaboration with Tibal Development Department.

2003 to 2013

  • Based on long field based experience and learning, Astha Sansthan has established 7 Resource unit with focus on different thematic areas of the organization. Role of Resource Unit is to provide facilitation support in the form of training, planning and resource/IEC material and develop their knowledge and leadership. Also establishing linkages with other issue based network groups at the state and national level. Name of Resource Unit are as follows:
    • Livelihood resource unit
    • Local self-governance resource unit
    • Education and Cultural resource unit
    • Tribal Development resource unit
    • Disability resource unit
    • Women Empowerments Resource Unit
    • BARC [Budget Analysis Rajasthan Center]

    Key programme implemented in the phase through Resource Unit, with govt , other groups and campaign.

  • Access to entitlements under MGNREGA through campaign.
  • Addressing women’s issue in Rajasthan and at the national level.
  • Inclusive and Quality Education
  • Entitlements related to community forest management and protection.
  • Social inclusion of differently able people and access to entitlement.
  • Implemented watershed programme in collaboration with MoRD.
  • Implemented Natural Resource Management programme supported by UNDP.

2013 to 2024

  • Strengthened Village Assembly under Panchayati Raj and PESA Act to exercise their roles and responsibilities.
  • Provided training to Village Assembly for making Village Development Plan and developed master trainer for the same.
  • Capacity Building of elected women representative on Panchayati Raj on their role and responsibilities so that they can function independently.
  • Collaboration with Panchayati Raj Departmet for organizing newly elected representative training in 3 Districts.
  • Facilitated preparation of Participatory Village Development Plan in 475 villages in a participatory manner and submission of same to Panchayat under GPDP. Also supported Village Assembly to implement the plan.
  • Facilitated training of Community Forest Management in 250 villages in collaboration with tribal development department.
  • Facilitated entitlement related to community forest in collaboration with tribal development department.
  • Skill Development training and livelihood creation for disable people and also organized them in groups called Differently abled people’s organization [DPOs].
  • Covid Relief support [food packets and health kit] to 3600 families
  • 2 Quarantine centers established during Covid.
  • Facilitated preparation of revised Village Development Plan and incorporated issues emerged due to Covid [Covid Affected population, reverse migration, disable etc.].
